Of course I was especially impressed by the visit to the museum. The museum was very well-designed and I think that the first room, where it was possible to experience the aftermath of the bombing, holds the best opportunity for bringing this terror into the consciousness of a younger audience too. The design of the glass floor in the museum, with pieces of the ruins and personal objects of probable victims, made a big impression on me.
I also found meeting contemporary witnesses on location and the comments of contemporary witnesses in the video that was shown very good. They almost made the bombardment come to life with their sometimes extremely lively depictions.
What it brought me personally is difficult to say. It could be that it wasn’t structured enough for that. In any case, I can say that I now know a lot more about the Spanish Civil War and about Guernika. Guernika as part of the German preparations for war and the background for becoming involved in the Spanish Civil War will definitely play a role in my future profession as a history teacher.
